Episode 11: 5 “Healthy Foods” That Are Killing Your Sex Drive

In This Episode…

Greg and I are super excited to discuss these 5 so called “healthy” foods that are actually hurting your health and well being.

Join us in episode 11 of The Road to Ripped Podcast so you know what harmful foods to avoid…

We not only wanted to share these 5 foods with you, but we wanted to actually back our claims with sound research as to why these foods are hurting your health and hormonal functioning.

Let’s dive in:

0:01 – 5 not so healthy foods hurting your sex drive.

3:02 – Flax seeds are NOT healthy and are hurting your hormones.

9:29 – Liquorice

14:00 – Polyunsaturated fatty acids.

15:38 – Mint…yes really!

19:10 – Last on the list, soy.

Food #1: Flax Seed

Flax seeds contain a very large amount of lignans, which are highly estrogenic compounds.

And these have been shown to negatively impact overall testosterone and free testosterone levels.

Food #2: Licorice

Keep in mind, we just want to help you become aware of certain foods that are hurting your health. I’m sure it’s not that bad if you have some liquorice here and there.

Although, licorice contains glycyrrhizic acid which has been shown in human studies to lower testosterone levels in as little as 4 days!

Don’t worry though, after the participants in the study stopped eating licorice, their testosterone levels bounced back to normal.

So, make sure to avoid licorice teas, the candy, and any licorice flavoring.

Food #3: All Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids

Polyunsaturated fatty acids or PUFA’s are another thing that many people seem to get offended by, but here’s the truth:

In general, majority of PUFA’s come from vegetable oils. Think canola, soy, corn, sunflower seed, oils.

The reason why polyunsaturated fatty-acids suppress testosterone and thyroid hormones is likely caused by the fact that they have the long sensitive carbon-carbon chains in their structure.

This makes the fatty-acids very unstable when in contact with oxygen, heat, and light, causing them to literally go rancid inside the body through a process called “lipid peroxidation”. This creating free radicals and eventually oxidative damage in the cells.

Make sure to stick with saturated and monounsaturated fats, such as coconut oil, butter, and olive oil.

Food #4: Mint

Ugh, this one is tough for us to talk about. Mint is literally found in so many products all the way from tooth paste to teas. It tastes great doesn’t it?

Although, it’s hurting your health.

In a human study, mint has been shown to lower total testosterone levels by 51% – that’s insane.

Food #5: Soy

A lot of people think soy is healthy, but it actually contains a very high estrogenic compound called isoflavones.

(Isoflavones have also been linked to breast cancer.)

Not to mention that a lot of soy is cheaply produced, and sprayed with a bunch of pesticides which isn’t good for your health regardless.

Final Thoughts

We understand it’s tough to take in this kind of information – but again, we’re here to give you the truth.

And as you can see, these 5 common foods quickly start to mess up the hormonal balance in your body. It may be time to reassess what you have in your current diet and lifestyle!

We’ll see you in Season 2…

Thanks for listening!
